History
LAWASIA's creation was heavily influenced by the (then) president of the Law Council of Australia, Mr J B Piggott CBE, (then) Mr Justice John Kerr and (then) Mr P B Toose QC to form a regional association of lawyers in Asia. In a conference held in 1966 LAWASIA was born and included 17 countries.

According to their website, LAWASIA is a "regional association of lawyers which advocates for the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession". Their mission statement states that they try to encourage and facilitate regional interaction within the legal community in Asia and Pacific, provide an established voice for the legal community in Asia and Pacific, promote the rule of law and respect human rights, facilitate quality cross-border legal education, and promote business law initiatives. In order to achieve those goals they hold a multitude of conferences regarding human rights in Asia and the Pacific.
