The East Timor Alert Network’s October 4th, 1993 East Timor Update was published in the October 1993 issue of The ACTivist.
Titled, Indonesia steps up arrests in East Timor, the update discusses an escalation in repression by the Indonesian armed forces in East Timor during the Indonesian government’s engagement in United Nations talks. Next, it presents two East Timorese leaders who have been nominated for international human rights awards. Finally, the update discusses the condemnation of three Swedish MPs of the Indonesian occupation of East Timor and the possibility that the US would ban weapons sales to Indonesia.
