IFET was founded in 1991 with offices in Kyoto, Japan, and consultative status with the United Nations in New York. It grouped together dedicated solidarity groups in many countries, carrying out networking and coordination work, especially around the annual UN Decolonization Committee hearings.

In 1999, IFET formed an Observer Project (IFET-OP) to monitor the referendum in Timor-Leste.

Established in 1995 and based in Melbourne, Australia, The East Timor Human Rights center is an independent rights center. The goal of the organization was to promote and protect the human rights of the people of and living in East Timor.

The British Coalition for East Timor (BCET) is a group of NGOs, individuals and small organizations that are committed since 1992 to help East Timor with human rights, its independence and general peace. They use diverse techniques to influence the United Kingdom's policy on East Timor such as organizing public information events and lobbying parliamentarians and government officials.

The International Work Group for Indigenous Peoples represents both a non-political or religious institution that works to provide support for Indigenous and ethnic groups globally.

ENAAT is a group of individuals and organizations that has been meeting in relations to stopping the arms trade since 1884.

Inspired by the 1994 Asia-Pacific Conference on East Timor in Manila, the Philippine Solidarity for East Timor and Indonesia was created to promote cooperation towards the self-determination of East Timor between nations.

LAWASIA's creation was heavily influenced by the (then) president of the Law Council of Australia, Mr J B Piggott CBE, (then) Mr Justice John Kerr and (then) Mr P B Toose QC to form a regional association of lawyers in Asia. In a conference held in 1966 LAWASIA was born and included 17 countries.

This group was created in 1967 by a group of university students in Australia to influence both campus and out of campus politics. It fights against a multitude of issues such as sexism, racism, and environmental destruction. It organizes social movements and campaigns for diverse issues. It associates with the Socialist Alliance and is anti-capitalist.

The Canada-Asia Working Group is an interchurch coalition mandated by ecumenical churches and religious organizations to work on human rights and justice issues linking Canada and partners in the Asian region.
